Roland

Roland looks out, taking in the rising sun

from his chair, stationed in his little sunporch.
Smiling at the reflection of the sun
glaring from the middle of the pond
that his home is placed behind.

It was around seven years ago
a world of change was needed.
The mind was starting to steamroll
with horrid, self-hurting thoughts
feelings that were beginning to over power.

Roland cannot give the order of events
that lead to what would be the breakdown.
There were so many things at one time.
The bend, do not break, mindset
felt like it was failing.

Roland thinks it started with the demise
of a marriage that he thought would last.
Not once was there an argument.
Two people who talked about everything,
held hands everywhere we went.
Roland did not know was unhappy.
Now she is happy with someone else.
An emotional blow Roland was not ready for.

Trying to rebuild from that was one thing.
Getting used to being alone again.
Roland tried to lean on friends
however some of them turned away.
Shocked as they were life-long friends.
Selfishly, he could not stop thinking,
not once was Roland not there for them.
His heart broke even more.

To keep the piling on,
professionally, Roland kept getting passed over
for a position that he worked for and deserved.
Roland had to watch others get the positions
that he took the time and mentored them for.
Roland’s production went further down.

The lowest hit was the loss of a parent.
He was not ready for that loss.
Roland was close to them.
People say that at least
there was not anymore pain.
As a son, that did not matter.
The loss was and is painful.

All of this happened
in a short period of time.
Emotionally, Roland was not prepared
and the breakdown was unreal.
Loss of sleep and weight.
Roland looked like a small fraction
compared to what he was.
Changes had to be made.

It all brought Roland here.
He packed everything and moved
to a place where rebuilding was possible.
Roland had never been to a place like this.
The land around him clears the mind,
perspective on what is important
has completed changed.
Roland is finally happy and alive.
This is who Roland is.
