Proximity, babe
Simple restraint shining.
A warmth that penetrates my skin.
Relaxed conversation.
Easy speech yet so much flavor in your choice of words.
Heady yet tasteful like a fine wine I long to drink in.
When my thoughts begin to stabilize, I look back upon our life,
unhurried, breathing contentment in slow, welcome breaths.
It was always good to have you near.
I need to feel those comforting moments hovering over me once again.
In Love There Is No Time
During the move as we pushed against exhaustion,
We found ourselves alone for several nights.
Our possessions had been carted off to the new place in a strange town.
I had made many tearful goodbyes to friends and allies I realized I might never see again.
I tried to ignore my fears and look upon the change as an adventure.
There had been weeks of planning and labor, so many phone calls.
I felt the tension of being torn between two homes, neither seeming real.
I sat on the stoop knowing the stars would follow me.
We reclined, spent on our grieving mattress, for it seemed to sense it was to be sacrificed.
We began to touch as we hadn't in a long time.
Intimacy flowed between us like a cool rushing spring.
Afterwards, we laughed.
You caressed my face, smoothed my hair back.
I drifted off to sleep, my heart pleased, my mind quieted.
We had never been out of love.
