eight years of
writers workshop Wednesdays
provides me a sense of
purpose
teachable moments
immense gratitude

stories, poems read aloud
many, deeply personal
we listen
critique with respect, honesty

a fellowship
rooted in our love and commitment
to nurture soul stories to life

actively waiting

early morning
soft warm breeze
rustles the bevy of volunteer calla lilies
hummingbird landed
on late winter’s bare branch
I look at him
he looks around
God brought us to this pause
acknowledging our surroundings
before moving on

someday
cancer will bring me
to my port of call
where I will drop anchor
in heaven
until then
I pray for God to hold me safe
keep my footing steady

hope

within a forest
lies a felled tree
stump remains

what is left as dead and useless
has become a vessel
which through a slight crack
a mighty leaf shoots forth

reaches for the sun
