Our Aim

We are aiming to promote both creative writing and the performing of this work for writers in the north of Ireland.

Competiton Rules

Theme: Life on Our North Coast 

Closing date for Submissions: August 31st, 2023

Accepting places: The successful writers will be contacted via their email account on or around the 30th September. There will be a limited amount of time to reply to accept your place before the spot will be offered to one of the runner-up entry’s.

Submissions: Writers may submit one entry each, this may be either Prose or Poetry. Each Prose piece must take less than ten minutes reading time, this is the maximum performance time allocated for those who advance through to the Showcase level of the Competition.                                                                   

Winners: Ten Winners will be chosen to perform their piece in Portstewart in a Showcase Event on Saturday, 18^th November. By entering you are confirming your availability for the physical performance. Five of these will then be chosen on the night by Steve Cawte, Editor of Impspired, and a small panel of judges to be published in Impspired Online Magazine, and the subsequent Print Edition.

             To encourage Writing and Performing among the younger members of the Community, two of the ten winning Showcase Places will be designated for those under 18, as will One of the five Winners chosen to be published. 

Submission Guidelines:  

• One Submission only per person of either Poetry or Prose. 

• Please submit your piece in a  Word File attached to an email and send to ImpspiredSoundwavesCompetition@outlook.com preferably in Times New Roman, Font Size 12, with ‘Impspired North Coast Competition’ AND your Name in the email subject line.

• This submission will then be forwarded anonymously to a Panel of Impspired Judges chaired by Steve Cawte. There must be no name or any information about the Sender in any entry. If you have your name in the header or footer of your work please remove it prior to submission.

•  Please also send a short biography (about 200 words or so) and a good resolution photograph with your submission. This is needed for those Winners who will be published in the Impspired Online magazine and subsequent Print Edition. 

• We accept reprints or simultaneous submissions, but please let us know if the piece has been accepted elsewhere.
