There is a Strength in Knowledge

Sunlight creeps between the blinds

and into my eyes.

I know now that morning has broken
the sky wide open.

The drone of traffic, tires gripped upon
faded grey asphalt motorway.

Children chat with their friends while waiting
for the warm yellow cocoons of school busses.

I yawn like a weary old dog, arms and legs
stretching towards nothingness.

I scratch my head and rub my face, happy
in the knowledge that it's not time; too face

this new day; no, not yet.

Ring in the New

Vengeful rage of waterfall

dour in the dregs of midnight.

The rabid wash of sand
in an hour glass.

Let the wine of Dionysus
spill and quiche their thirst.

The dead are not here
they do not dance

nor harbor resentment
or bear names.

As the iron bells of cathedrals
ring in the new

the old passes unnoticed in
fleshy trenches where

no one remembers
and nobody cares.

Even in the Silence

Rain drops

falling
gentle upon the
rooftop
her smile
the beacon
of light
within
this room
watching her
nestled beside me
and
even
in silence we're
the completion of
one another
a mirror reflection
a refraction of
sound that carries
everything
even when no words
are spoken
a ripple of dreams
cascading throughout
the stillness of
this room
and memories of
the vast dark skies
above.
